Splatterpunk: The Disturbing Rise of a Literary Counterculture
A deep-dive into Splatterpunk by Sam Ballantyne, the man behind The Selador channel.
Why share content from someone else about a topic you have already covered? Well, because it is interesting, and Sam’s work has inspired me ever since I stumbled across his video about Stephen King’s Rage. I appreciate Sam’s effort and talent and also enjoy the longer formatted media. We have become too comfortable with TikTok-length videos and short stories. The Selador is far deeper than that.
I had sent Sam a private message when he mentioned he was looking at creating a video about splatterpunk and I wanted to share some of the books that I read. What Sam put together was a nearly one-hour video exploring countercultures and splatterpunk. I would love to take credit for any of this, but sadly, I cannot. I am merely sharing this as it was of interest to me and having covered splatterpunk myself, I am passing this along.
From The Selador:
At its most basic explanation, Splatterpunk is a movement in the horror genre that sought to portray its horror elements in as unflinching and graphically descriptive a way as possible. No suggestibility or filling in the blanks here, if someone in a Splatterpunk novel has to die you are going to read the gruesome details of it.

Episode 13: Let’s Talk Splatterpunk
Hey man, thank you for this post it means a lot. I should've given you way more credit than I did when creating the Splatterpunk video because your comment helped me more than you realise. It took me a long time to get around to making it but I'm glad I did in the end. Finding any information on the genre was hard in and of itself so, once again, a comment like yours was incredibly helpful. Hope you're doing well and please keep going :)
